Apford got their new logo design by running a design contest:
Professional DJ needs a logo

Entertainment & The Arts
I'm a professional DJ working in nightclubs, lounge bars, as well as private and corporate events. I am in need of a sleek and professional logo to help represent myself at events and on promotional materials (flyers, Facebook, website, my computer, and other marketing materials). Please see the notes for more details about myself and the values the logo should communicate.
Logo types to explore
I'm a resident DJ for a well known nightlife group in my region. I DJ regularly for a nightclub catering to a young professional crowd (ages 21 - 35) and a lounge-bar catering to a mature crowd and pre-party crowd (ages 25 - 45). In addition to resident DJ, I am also one of the primary entertainment coordinators, and talent buyer. I also do private and corporate events. I play a variety of music, ranging from top-40 commercial, electronic (house, electro, progressive, EDM), lounge, retro, and more. My selection is always accessible and caters to the audience. My mixing style is very clean, everything is mixed on beat and in key. My style relies on the right balance of track selection, use of effects, samples, and advanced mixing techniques. I do very little scratching or other hip-hop/urban related techniques. Regarding logos and general visual identity, I most prefer those of the well known electronic DJs. Please see the links bellow to the Ultra Music Festival 2012 flyers: http://tinyurl.com/cchlvyv http://tinyurl.com/cbcl97l I like the logos of Cedric Gervais, Dash Berlin, Groove Armada, Eric Prydz, Pendulum, Robbie Rivera, Colors I like are Black, white, gray, blue, purple, red, but use of those are not necessarily required. Other colors could be ok too. I tend to dislike hip hop, urban, street style designs since it does not align with my own style. I also do not like the cliche "DJ" icons such as turntables, headphones, records, etc.

And then… they selected a winner!
Logosquare was great to work with. Their response was timely and their ability to listen and produce what was asked for was on point. I would not hesitate to recommend them or use them again.
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
We think contests are a super fun way to get design.
