We are looking for a rather simple logo, ideally inspired by the terms "molecule" and "virus". The foot print of the logo should be aprx. square (not necessarily including the text "Molecular Virology Heidelberg" [or "HD" instead of "Heidelberg"] which could appear next to the +/- square logo). If the text is not an integral part of the logo, our location, the city of Heidelberg, should in some form be referenced in the logo, either symbolized or as the letters "HD". The corporate designs of our hosting institutions are held in a dark red (roughly RGB 170,0,0; this is the scientific faculty http://www.medizinische-fakultaet-h, or a dark blue (roughly RGB 30, 80, 130; the clinical part http://www.klinikum.uni-heidelberg.de), which could be good base or highlight colors for the logo, but this is optional.
As the major use for the new logo will be on PowerPoint slides, an exemplary layout for a plain and clean PPT carrying the logo would be appreciated.
Addendum 1: I have now uploaded an Illustrator-PDF with the text "Molecular Virology Heidelberg" set in our institution's corporate identity font. It is not required to use this font, but it might be an inspiration.
Addendum 2: For people not so familiar with microbiology / chemistry a quick briefing: a virus is best iconized as a "spiked ball" or as a hexagon (icosahedron actually); I have pulled together a quick sketch in the file "Virus.pdf", again just for inspiration... For "molecule" the Google image results for the terms "molecule" and "structure formula" are giving a good impression of how a molecule can be represented graphically.
