Running 4 Richard is an organization who's mission is to raise awareness of the fact that lung cancer is the largest cancer killer and that testing in the form of CT scans can provide early identification of lung cancers and increase survivorship. The target audience is current and former smoking Americans and the medical community. Running 4 Richard desires to one day have CT scans as common for the highest risk groups as mammograms are for women over 40. The three key aspects of Running 4 Richard is:
1 to educate the public on how to protect themselves by stopping smoking,
2. to request screening
3. increase survivorship
Running 4 Richard was borne out of the daughters of Richard D Walsh who died after a short 7 month struggle with Lung Cancer. Richard was a father of 5 children, a civil engineer and volunteer to his community through boy scouts, foster care review board and his local catholic church. Richard's daughters are runnners who are using the events in which the family and fellow runners participate in to raise awareness.
