Tracie P. got their new logo design by running a design contest:
New logo wanted for Upscale Coffee Shop

Quokka Coffee is a new coffee shop and cafe that will have a definite Australian feel to the decor and atmosphere. The coffee will all be fair-trade, there will be high quality pastries and good sandwiches. The shop is in a corner building of historic downtown Kissimmee, Florida. Some of the things that will be used to decorate the shop include weather-beaten wood reclaimed from a 40 year old beach house and real wood surfboards.
Logo types to explore
In general, we want our coffee shop to be very sophisticated but also have a feel of green/nature as we will be serving fair-trade coffee and decorating with natural wood, surfboards and canvas images of many places in Australia including mountains and oceans. I have also attached a picture from our architect of the type of interior we will have. There are two different design ideas we have had when thinking about the logo. One is the company name at the foreground and a map of Australia in the background. The other is actually having a Kangaroo or Quokka (a smaller marsupial similar to Kangaroo) in the logo if you can do this without being too cartoony- maybe an outline. Not sure if this is possible though while still portraying sophistication. One other small thought I had was the idea of invoking a travel/vintage map feel - like the travel montage they show in movies such as Casablanca or more recently, Indiana Jones, when they show that someone is traveling and they draw a line on a world map to show were they are going. I think the reason I am drawn to this is because I like the logo for Intelligentsia Coffee, and their logo makes me think of that because of the star and the wings.
