We'd like a logo that conveys a sense of warmth and friendliness - the core values are about community, conversation and connection. Our core audience will like technology, and want to make more out of it, but won't be the hardcore geeks - the role of our community is to bring people together to learn more about doing stuff.
The logo should feel modern, but not "geeky/technical" - we like the tints, curved lines and "chunkiness" of Web 2.0 logos. The Vodafone example attached is a nice one of how a speech icon has been built into the logo design, balancing well with the logo type.
The device we're focusing on can be found here: http://h41112.www4.hp.com/promo/web…chpad.html - we don't have to follow that UI design, but maybe a subtle connection would work (?)
The web screenshots show the type of website (not necessarily the same colour palette) the logo will be applied too - it will need to have standout and it's warm and friendly tone will then be applied to the rest of the site.
Slightly left-field, but I've also included some simple character images as inspiration - it may be that there's a design route here to convey personality.
