We, epidemiologists [ı.e members of SVEP] identify risk factors and determine health outcomes including risk of disease. We use tools such as biostatistics to quantify risk factors and health outcomes. Concepts that are important in epidemiology include environment, genetics, case-control studies, cohort studies, bias, confounding, normal distribution. We work through observations, but also through experimental methods. Graphic elements that often occur in epidemiology publications include survival curves, natural distributions, and pictures of people (populations). The long-term aim of epidemiologists, just like any other health professionals, is to create health. Our tools are statistical/mathematical and deal with figures/data.
