WHO WE ARE
The Friends of the National Arboretum Canberra (incorporated in 2008) is a community group which seeks to engage the community in the development of a new arboretum in Canberra - Australia's capital city.
ABOUT THE ARBORETUM
The National Arboretum Canberra is still in the construction phase but planting and building will be completed by the official opening in March 2013. By 2013 the Arboretum will have over 100 forests of rare or iconic trees from around the world.
WHAT WE DO
The Friends seek community support through membership, donations and volunteering. We organise regular Open Days with guided bus tours, host an annual 'Festival of the Forests', publish a quarterly newsletter to keep our members abreast of developments and educate them about the rare and iconic species in our forests. We are also involved in monitoring tree growth, species research, and hands-on 'working bees' in the forests and rocky knolls that occur throughout the arboretum. We also strive to include children, young people and school groups in these pursuits wherever possible.
