PLEASE WATCH VIDEOS AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS... You'll meet us there: We are two filmmakers who spend half of our lives in dark rooms editing color and sound like cave dwellers... and the other half out in the world exploring conversation, relationships, love, and purpose. We've worked together for years now creating films for non-profit organizations, small businesses, large corporations, entire city economic development campaigns, short documentary, and music videos.... but we spend time making these things mostly because we love what we get to do. We get the chance to share in many people's most inspired moments while taking cameras to their successes and anxieties. Film is something that gives us a chance to love on people, share empathy, and care for the world around us. In a nutshell, we are two filmmakers for hire, and we love each other a whole lot in the process. We feel like kids all the time, getting the chance to be where we wouldn't belong otherwise. We never do anything without music in our hearts... that's sort of how we fell in love in the first place. We chose a locomotive engine as our flagship image... , because we value the power of things that never change. Like a locomotive, even at rest in retirement, we want to remember the things that go on true to themselves even when the world moves on from them. PLEASE watch these two videos... this is who we are and how we fell in love with each other and the creativity we share: Who we are: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zDi3oLdvHuQ Our Reel (with old employer and how we fell in love): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jhTI4iabdno
Other color requirements
This can be one of two designs... (Vintage Railroad Company-style Logo or Pen and Ink Cross-Hatching Storybook Illustration). Please use your strengths... For either styles: We want you to imagine a (used to be green) locomotive engine resting in a field for a century sometime near the edge of the fall... two children fell in love with it and one another. Together the three of them (Locomotive and two children) adventure together now, every day, in love and friendship. Old rusted green, Brown/Orange, mustard yellow. Flannel colors of fall. But ultimately, we need the logo to translate in total black or total white. It will often be used over top of moving images (like film projects). For us, that's most important. FOR THOSE OF YOU GOING FOR VINTAGE RAILROAD COMPANY LOGO: (read notes near the bottom of brief). This should be easy to translate on moving surfaces (like video) and reckon to early railroad company print logos (a little better explained further down). FOR THOSE OF YOU GOING FOR THE PEN AND INK CROSS HATCHING... We want you to think of the storybook illustrations you've seen in books growing up. Make us feel the story of two children (boy leading a girl by the hand) chasing a steam locomotive. It should feel like flipping to the next chapter in a long novel, and being rewarded with a chapter heading illustration that says it all. Please pull at our heartstrings. We hope this image will reckon to the creativity, compassion, and love we share. For the minimal and negative-space designers we've invited to this contest: If there is any way for you to use your skills in tying up these concepts into implied shapes and spaces, we are interested in seeing that also. I feel like there are many opportunities to use the locomotive as subject 1 (or background) and the children running (cut out from in in negative space)... or running in front of or behind)... VERY IMPORTANT NOTE TO ALL DESIGNERS: Samantha and I are pretty down-to-earth as far as clothing. If you decide to render the two children (which we'd love to see), be sure to consider how we look. Samantha is a tomboy with long hair (and wouldn't want to ever be seen in a dress). Jeans and t-shirts are very safe for us.
It all began with a design brief.
