Amia, Friends for Elders connects smart, empathetic people (people we call “Friends”), with elders to provide social interaction and emotional connection. This alleviates elder loneliness, isolation and depression, while providing feedback and peace of mind to families about their aging parents.
Typical customers are men and women, ages 40 – 65, with aging parents. We use an online marketplace to make and manage the connections between the Friend and customer. If you are familiar with TaskRabbit, then you are familiar with the marketplace concept. But, instead of connecting property owners with workers like TaskRabbit, we connect Friends with families with aging parents, to provide in-person socially interactive visits for the elders.
A game, listening to music, going for a walk, lively conversation, may be part of the visits. Bringing elders back into the social world from feeling marginalized or isolated.
We are frequently compared to the “in home elder care” companies that provide primarily physical care for elderly. But, we offer a different service (social-emotional care) and want to differentiate ourselves from caregiver companies.
We’d like our logo and name to be bright, uplifting, fun, enlivening. We do not want to be compared to the well-known in-home care companies like Visiting Angels, Home Instead or Comfort Keepers.
We want our logo and name to:
- Catch your eye and be easily remembered;
- Look good printed large or small, from business cards to banners;
- Easily transferred to black and white;
- Appealing to both men and women customers.
