A logo for SOMMO: the first really comfortable sofa-bed in the world

SOMMO is the brand name of a brand new product in the market of sofa-beds. SOMMO carries with him a huge innovation in the field: it’s structure includes a double-relax mechanism. This means that a person can basically make the following things: 1) sit on the sofa; 2) sit on the sofa and activate the relax mechanism so that (s)he can stay in a more-comfortable position (with legs lifted); 3) open the bed and sleep on it. Before SOMMO, the point n. 2) was not allowed, because there wasn’t enough space to keep the bed and the relax mechanism together below the sofa seats. By this way, before SOMMO, a sofa-bed was considered an almost-bed mixed to an almost-sofa, because the features of the whole product were not enough to make it neither a comfortable sofa, nor a comfortable bed. SOMMO offers a solution to this ancestral problem. It is made in the so called “triangle of the sofa” - an area in the south of Italy, included between Altamura, Santeramo and Matera, made famous in the whole world for the handcraft excellence in the production of sofa and sofa-bed products: the raw materials used to craft SOMMO are high in quality, and so is the expertise of the firm and its employees. This means that you can sit on SOMMO and stay comfortable thanks to the softness of the seat. If it’s not enough, you can activate the relax-mechanism and reach the higher level of comfort. Then, if we take into consideration the bed system, there’s a comparable level of excellence: the mattress is made with a technology that makes it comfortable despite of its 14 cm thickness. By this way, SOMMO is the revolution of the comfort in the field of sofa-beds. NAMING We would like the name SOMMO to be written in capital letters. Its meaning is a double one: on one hand, “sommo” is a verb coming from “sommare”, whose meaning is “to add”; so, it indicates the act of summing up things. On the other hand, “sommo” is an adjective that means “supreme”, “superior”, “the highest”. SLOGAN The slogan is as follow: “Divano + Letto + Relax” (the slogan may change during the contest) SYMBOL Starting from this brief, we would like you to craft a symbol that could represent the innovation of this product and convey its uniqueness in the market. The logo will be printed and sewed, so we are looking for a logo that can easily adapt to these kind of application. We want the logo to evoke some specific concepts: 1) the smartness; 2) the excellence in the handcraft. 3) the calmness that SOMMO can help to regain. These meanings can be expressed by the symbol, the font and the color. Your is the choice of how to compose the whole logo. ******UPDATE******** We recieved a lot of logo ideas and we are proud of it! Thanks to all the designers that dived in this project. By evaluating all the proposal, we noticed that many designers adopted a style made of straight lines and bright colors. This update is to ask you to try other ways, particularly looking at another guideline: try to add more "innocence" in the logo. An innocence "aware of itself and of its capabilities" - almost spirituality. So, keep an eye on colors and lines that are more sinuous and soft. Thank You again, RM
