I'm a software developer at Intuit, the makers of TurboTax, Mint, and QuickBooks. I'm pitching an idea around the company, and would love a fantastic logo that captures the essence of what I'm hoping to produce.
The product is an attempt to help people forecast their financial lives in a fun, easy, non-threatening way.
Concept wise we're hoping to use Hot-Air balloon imagery within the application, so would love to see some concepts take that into account. However, we're also pretty open to other ideas.
Should we end up developing this concept, the logo would potentially end up on the Web, Mobile Platforms, and event print (t-shirts, etc).
Our primary audience is 30 something year olds with big life decisions looming - do I buy a house? Have a kid? Am I saving enough for retirement? etc. Within that market, folks that would find us appealing generally find current options like 401k calculators at Fidelity way too boring, drab, and depressing. We're hoping to give them a better picture of where they are today financially, and we're they're heading - while remaining fun and hopeful.
While are target is 30 something year olds, we do expect a wide audience from 20 - 65 to be interested.
You pretty much have full artistic range. Ideally the logo would look coherent when side by side with Mint's, but should be able to stand alone. The ideal logo would indicate this product is about personal finances, but reflect the fun and hope we intend to convey throughout the product. Our tentative tagline is 'Forecast your financial future', and we have a hot air balloon motif going on within our initial concept. You are welcome to try to incorporate those elements, or use your own judgement to experiment with other elements or concepts.
Otherwise, see the attached screenshots.
The first, LifeCaster.png, is a bad example - it's what you get when a developer has to create a placeholder.
The second is Mint's, in case you're not familiar with it.
The 3rd and 4th are screenshots from JacquieLawson.com. We don't want to go this far - and certainly don't want teddy bears, but want to be closer to here than your traditional financial product logo.
The final one is TaxCaster - another product of ours. http://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tool…taxcaster/ The iconography would probably be similar - but the color pallette would probably be closer to Mint's.In terms of product functionality and layout it would be pretty close to this.
