robert.hilbrich got their new logo design by running a design contest:
A new logo for the popular traffic and mobility simulator SUMO
Check out robert.hilbrich's Logo design contest…
If you like, you could add "Simulation of Urban Mobility", but this is not a requirement.
SUMO is a free and open traffic simulation software which is available since 2001. SUMO allows modelling of intermodal traffic - like road vehicles, public transport and pedestrians. Included with SUMO is a wealth of supporting tools which handle tasks such as route finding, visualization, network import and emission calculation. SUMO can be enhanced with custom models and provides various APIs to remotely control the simulation. SUMO is currently used to do research on new modes of transportation and it is also applied for the development and testing of autonomous vehicles. See also: https://projects.eclipse.org/projects/technology.sumo and http://sumo.dlr.de/
The old logo can be found here http://sumo.sourceforge.net/userdoc/logo.png - we do not consider this to be pretty and cool, but it got us through the last 16 years. Now it is time for something new and fresh - a new look that would fit in well with other logos of projects in the Eclipse Foundation: - https://www.eclipse.org/app4mc/ - https://wiki.eclipse.org/OpenPASS-WG - https://www.openmdm.org/ We would like to put a stronger emphasis on different modes of transport - basically, we are not just simulating cars, we look at pedestrians, bikes, trains, ... and even ships. So you could work with motives of cars, vehicles and pedestrians - or you could look at the infrastructure side of things, like working with map motives or road networks. We have a large international userbase (about 90 000 downloads per year worldwide) - so this logo will be visible for a lot of eyeballs. It would be perfect, if the logo could be used - in slides and brochures to advertise this open source project and - for the software application itself; for this purpose it should allow a scaling down to 64x64 pixels.

And then… they selected a winner!
Wiserator came into my logo contest with a design that reflected the majority of what my prompt was, but came in with a completely unique design compared to the rest of the designers. This made really turned heads when polling others on the designs.
As time went on, Wiserator continued to submit color variations of the original design, and explained intricate details of the variances that made them unique. It made is a lot easier on me to be easily articulate what I wanted out of the final product.
Wiserator was always prompt in responses and was very gracious in iterating to find the final design that was right for me. I am looking to collaborating on future projects with Wiserator in the future, as my business takes off from start-up phase.
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
We think contests are a super fun way to get design.
