This group is being organized to build cooperation and “Co-Oper-titon,” by bringing together many of the players who service the special needs community to develop unified strategies to best meet the needs of an under-serviced (and at-risk) populations of families and caregivers who have special needs wards in their care who are concerned about what will happen to their wards if something happens to them. We will provide education to the special needs community, families and caregivers regarding special needs trusts, conservatorships, government programs, legal requirements, insurance and legacy planning to protect people with disabilities by providing information and resources. We will be holding seminars throughout Southern California. Currently some of the non profits involved are the Special Olympics, Down Syndrome Association of OC, Easter Seals, Goodwill, Ability First, Best Buddies, and Pathpoint to name a few and the list continues to grow.
Tell us a bit about who you are and the people you reach
Our target audience are families who have and care for individuals with special needs. This includes parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, caregivers, and other service providers. Our demographic is completely diverse. All races, ages, ethnicity, gender, and socio-economic status. Individuals with Special Needs require special attention when planning for their future legally and economically, otherwise the court has processes set up that the family might not want or even know about if no planning is done. We also want to educate parents and grandparents about planned giving strategies where giving back can help with their current and future tax situation while also benefiting the charities in this time of need. This includes simple things like naming a non profit in a will or as a beneficiary on a retirement account. We will also be educating families on how to navigate the government benefits system and what services are available.
We would like the logo to be family friendly. The name of the group is Special Needs Coalition. or Acronym "SNC" Something colorful might be nice. We are open to logo's that spell out the group name or use the initials or both.
