Kim Flowers, LCSW
I'm a therapist specializing in infant-parent and early childhood-family therapy. I work most often with parents with their children, so play is a big part of what we do. Helping parents to connect in their relationship is foundational. It is also parallel to the therapist-client relationship. In other words, our relationship is also one of attunement, sensitivity and support. I have worked extensively with military families. I help families in which there has been trauma in their experience, often either in the adults' childhood or in their young child's life. I also teach practical parenting skills and facilitate a group for moms with post-partum depression. I like helping women understand themselves better, learn to express and meet their needs and reach out for support with one another. This helps them in their relationships, especially with their young child. I also provide adult individual and couple's therapy. I like supporting fathers in their development as fathers. It is immensely rewarding to help parents connect and really "be" available to their child relationally and practically. I teach at a university in a Infant Preschool Mental Health Certificates program. I want to convey a picture of connectedness in relationships--the parent-child, husband-wife, therapist-client, women with women, etc. It is critical to help parents and their children--our world.
My desired clientele is infants, toddlers & preschoolers --and their parents, as well as individual adults and couples. A diverse clientele is desired, to include a variety of ethnicities and cultures, religions, sexual orientation, etc. My clientele will be those who have children with emotional, behavioral, sleep and feeding problems, as well as those with attachment difficulties. They will include adults with depression and anxiety, relationship problems, substance abuse, child abuse, domestic violence and trauma experiences. They will be primarily parents of young children.
I would like a simple logo that represents at least two people connected. Because I work with many different people, my thought is to portray them in a way that their ages and genders and ethnicities can be interpreted in different ways, i.e. adult-child, or two adults. Kind of non-descript. If a feeling can be generated in the viewing of the logo (not necessarily depicted in the faces of people, but more in response to viewing the logo) I would like it to be one of attunement, of presence, of support and of strength. I don't require many colors, but I do like warm colors(think Italy!): olive greens, golds, reds, browns. No clipart. I'm not married to the people connected in the logo idea. If you've other ideas, I'm open. Be creative. Artsy is okay. I do not want my business name integrated into the logo. I'd like it to stand alone.
