Joe Davison got their new logo design by running a design contest:

Check out Joe Davison's Logo design contest…
Top50.com is looking for a logo. We will be building a major media / entertainment portal on the Top50.com domain. This is your chance to have your work seen by millions of people worldwide.
What's your vision?
Desired Color Scheme: A mass appeal color like blue, green, or red Desired Style: Mainstream, mass audience, entertainment Accepted File Formats: Standard Web Formats (.jpg, .gif or .png); Vector Formats (.eps, .pdf or .ai); Layered Formats (.psd or .tiff) Who's on top? Music, movies, blogs, videos -- we've got it all covered at Top50.com. We are looking for a hip, fun, and cutting-edge logo that will appeal to a mass audience. The logo should contain the text "Top50.com" and nothing else. If you want to include some sort of symbolism, it should be an arrow pointing up or some sort of visual indication of "up" or "on top".
Every design category has flexible pricing for all budgets. Logo design starts at $299.
Full copyright with production-ready files for digital and/or print.

Joe Davison collaborated with designers to refine their ideas
When design entries come in, you can rate them so designers know what you’re looking for in your logo design.
99designs has great collaboration tools so you can pinpoint and capture your ideas
And then… they selected a winner!
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
We think contests are a super fun way to get design.
