This is going to be a challenging one. We have already paid several designers to create logos for us that have not worked out.
The logo included above has been our logo for quite some time. It is good in many ways. beautiful, striking, and interesting...but it has a couple of problems. The greatest of which is that it is "thin". When shrunk down or put on various items, it's thin lines and intricateness disappears. When we have been on sponsorship posters, our logo is almost unreadable.
What we do like about it is the classicness of the look. We like the reference to our theme (Clockworks). We like the steampunkness of the logo without it being over the top. (Most steampunk logos are TOO steampunk for us...it has to be a nod, not a full on homage to steampunk)
So the logo must be bold and strong, more than anything. It has to be simple so that it stands out. We love the idea of a gear or gears included. It has to be black on white but also be able to be inverted (white on black), with no gradients or colors. (in other words, it has to be able to be letterpressed with a single color screen)
The words can be incorporated into the design, and probably should be ideally, but do not need to be. Also, CLOCKWORKS is the key word. "Cafe and Cultural Center" should be smaller and a descriptive line under the cafe name.
i have also included some photos of our space for reference.
