awaddell needed a new logo design and created a contest on 99designs.
A winner was selected from 248 designs submitted by 37 freelance designers.
We need a catchy logo that makes our prospects and customers feel good. We're all about saving money and being fair. And keeping it simple.
J:)bilant Broadband
We're promoting that low cost with a fast and reliable service. It's kind of special because it has limited coverage. The customer will be 'lucky' when they get it (and happy).
The demographic is people who are smart enough to choose us because they recognise the power of simplicity. We're just providing internet access and doing it right.
The colours of our site will be black and gold. The traditional metaphor for value (gold). We need to balance this out and the colour of choice will be red or close to red (orange).
It's tempting to enhance the logo with imagery but my instinct is to keep it simple. The logo should look good expanded or contracted. It should look good as an avatar or a favicon
The 60's retro look is a little fashionable now but it feels like the look nevertheless. A bit of '71 Summer of Surf feels about right.
The smiley is a really strong component.
'Broadband' would be added as an afterthought. J:)bilant is the brand.
We will probably some consistent images in the site but not as part of the logo (I don't think). See http://www.fon.com/en/info/whatsFon or http://www.tivo.com/ for the kind of thing. Sketchy PCs, phones, TV's with arms and legs sorta thing. Think about how the logo will fit with this sort of theme.
I like the sketchy simplicity these site employ.
I also like the 2 tone look popularised by the iPod

So maybe we go that way, a bit of Jamiroquai rather than Sherbet (ughh, pleeeese).
Some 70's fonts
http://new.myfonts.com/tags/1970s/
the flowery ones are the way to go. The 'Western' and 'digital' styles remain awful crap.
- no wacky embellishments
- no 3rd party fonts - this should be handdrawn
- minimal KB. No bigger than google's image (which today is a GIF of 8558 bytes)
