How D.J. started their logo design journey

Company name

The Sewing Cottage

Overview

The Sewing Cottage is a drop-in Do-It Yourself sewing lounge, a workspace for all your sewing projects, If you don't have the equipment, or you don't want the mess, on your dining table, or floors, or maybe you just want to be away from the kids and create! At The Sewing Cottage we offer sewing lessons, seminars, one on one coaching, or just drop in to sew. From beginner to couturier, we always have someone standing-by to help you. We don't want you to have to stop your project so we always have a stock of sewing notions for sale to help you complete your garments, home decor, gifts, or alterations.
The Sewing Cottage is housed in a newly restored 1900's Dry Goods store, which for many years was a neighbourhood staple known as the Little Cottage Confectionary.

Tell us a bit about who you are and the people you reach

The Sewing Rooms philosophy is anchored in the "green" movement. "Reduce, reuse, and recycle", along with the "slow fashion" movement, where quality handrcrafted goods (either re-purposed or created) are valued over mass produced, mass market goods. The individuals, who use The Sewing Cottage, are from young Fashionistas to mature Style-Mavens. Perhaps people who no longer learn sewing skills in school or at home, but still want to express their creativity. Some visitors may be preparing to enter fashion school, or trying to complete assignments for a fashion academy. Many of the sewers will be making gifts, home decor, and even costumes. (for themselves or their kids)
The repeat customer is likely to be someone who enjoys working with their hands and textiles but has come back for the camaraderie.
An old fashioned "Sewing Bee" is what draws many people.

Requirements

The Logo, for website as well as Business Cards, should reflect the nostalgic past of The Cottage but not be "old fashioned".
A funky '50's retro vibe might bridge the past with the present, but is not mandatory.
Some retro COLOURS: that would be desirable are minty greens (seafoam) soft aqua, and even soft to vibrant yellows. Mossy greens and even olive might be o.k. as accents. The interior has bead board walls painted a soft green (B. M. cc 580 / Glazed Green). Try to avoid pinks and corals, as well as primary blues as these are my least favourite colours.
I really like the colour red and it makes a great accent colour.
FONTS: lettering and banners that might have been used in advertising during the '40's and '50's could be great. It might also be fun if some of the lettering looked like stitching, or even words stitched on fabric coming out of a sewing machine.
IMAGES: could include (but not limited) Vintage Sewing Machines, Spools of Thread, Steam Irons, Buttons, Pin Cushions (I don't know why, but the old ones are always shaped like a tomato) Dress Forms, Scissors, Needles, Thimbles, and many more.
Perhaps a tag line is necessary: "textile arts revived", "artfully handcrafting", "sewers retreat" "stitched to perfection", I'm not fixed on this, so I'm open.
Attached files are for inspiration, and fun (A bit contradictory perhaps, don't let them constrain you)
