Scott Gann Construction
Tell us a bit about who you are and the people you reach
We are small family business, who does residential construction and commercial site work (excavation/grading). Our target customer is, honestly, just about everyone. When trying to narrow it down our main goal is to target people looking to build new custom homes, while also catching people’s eyes when we are working on large commercial jobs around town as a subcontractor. Our logo needs to be diverse enough to go on business cards, t-shirts and truck signage as well. Scott started the business in 1985 and has grown it considerably since then, and now I (Jenny – his oldest daughter) have come into the business with the goal of one day taking the reins from Scott so he can retire (part time). We have struggled finding a logo for almost a year now and are really looking for something that stands out and is not just a fancy font. We need an image/color/brand (something that really resonates) that can help customers and competition (or simply everyone in our medium sized city) associate our logo with our high quality homes and customer service that has stood the test of time. We as a company have two main focuses 1) Being competitive in the commercial dirt work market within our home state of Missouri. 2) Building top notch quality custom homes that will last our customers their entire lifetime. My goal in stepping into the business is to continuously be learning the trade while also bringing the company into modern times, with things such as a logo, social media and great branding that tie to our already long and successful history.

In general as a business we are funny and creative people (I know hard to believe we are outsourcing a logo after that overly original sell on our creativity) but, our creative playground is homes for the most part, not graphic design. We had reached out to a designer in our hometown that worked up a few things that we didn't like, and we are looking for someone to really bring the heat with creativity and boldness. If we can successfully find a logo we like, we do intend to use said logo as a basis for a complete re-branding. I can see us turning it into business cards, envelopes, stationary, truck signs and possibly even t-shirts. All of which we are hoping to do over period of time using the designer who delivered the original logo. I will repeat this again and again we need something with a symbol (and it doesn't have to be a house or tools or necessarily related directly to our industry) but we need something more detailed that just our letters "SGC" or name arranged in a geometric fashion. We also like to have fun and build relationships with our customers, and I would love for this to reflect that. I don't want it to look like a logo for a construction company that builds high rises for people and never meets them or cares if they are happy in their home. WE LOVE WHAT WE DO and I want our logo to represent that. My goal is to have logo that's is inviting for everyone. Here are some facts/notes about us that might help you get to know us narrow in on a brand that might represent us:
We have an office dog named Jess - She is a border collie and doesn't know a stranger or how to say no to food.
Our shop is a huge red barn located right next to the house my parents still live in, our work is literally our lives and we are okay with that - though we are working on building a better office soon.
Most of our employee's have been with us for a long period of time, some can remember my childhood better than me because they were there for it and some even graduated high school with Scott and have been with the business for its entire life span.
We are from the Midwest, we say things like y'all and like to think we are down to earth, and that is what helps us connect to our customers in our town of 76,000 people.
Scott and I act like two people who have had too much caffeine (Mountain Dew) on a regular basis and though that may be true - we are truly just exuberantly high energy individuals.
