Dave Ward got their new logo design by running a design contest:
Help me make Spot Seeker a household name with a great logo

Spot Seeker is a website, currently under development, which will help people find public spots to meet, work, study, relax, etc. The idea is for it to be something like a Yelp or Google Local, but highly customized for the needs of someone who wants to find a place that's quiet or has good WiFi or meets other criteria specific to this niche. Rather than going to the usual crowded locations with poor WiFi, like a Starbucks, Spot Seeker will help you easily find a better nearby spot for your preferences.
Logo types to explore
I don't have a specific vision for what the logo should look like, so I'm open to a wide range of designs. I do want to be sure that it will cater to a professional audience though, because I think that will be one of the more important groups to capture for monetization. It doesn't need to be stuffy and boring, but I want to avoid anything that a business person might view as too cutesy. If the logo incorporates a mascot, I've thought that a dog named "Spot" could work well. He sniffs out the best spots! I would definitely want to stick with the theme of not being too unprofessional though. There's probably a fine line between something playful and something that's offputtingly goofy. I don't necessarily want to pigeonhole the concept for the site to just spots with WiFi, so I don't think I want to use a logo with radio waves, network strength bars, etc unless it works exceptionally well.
