Education has changed since parents have been in school and testing in Manhattan is high-stakes. The Manhattan Roundtable supports parents in learning about what is asked of their children in school and on state testing. The Manhattan Roundtable also teaches parents ways they can support their children at home to prepare for state testing.
The motto/slogan: Partnering with Parents to Support Our Kids.
Manhattan Roundtable offers classes a few months before testing as well as close to testing as a crash-course to help your child right before the test. The classes for parents are small, typically around 2-3 parents with one teacher. Thus, the roundtable around which the parents and teachers sit.
For example, Manhattan Roundtable offer classes in math to demystify the way math is being taught in schools today, which is significantly differently than the way it once was taught.
Manhattan Roundtable also has classes in how to support your child at home over the summer, so that he or she is ready to start school in the Fall and hasn't forgotten everything learned last year.
Manhattan Roundtable offers classes in how to support your child in reading, especially children who struggle with reading and how to foster a love of reading.
The classes are taught by grade level, typically 5th grade and below, so you get specific information on your child's curriculum.
There is a questionnaire to fill out before you come so the instructor can familiarize herself with your child and be prepared to offer specific suggestions.
