Acupuncture is a misunderstood practice. Most of my patients know nothing about my work or are "afraid of the needles" or fear that treatments will be painful and uncomfortable due to misrepresentation of acupuncture in films and media (see Kung Fu Panda). In addition, most patients associate acupuncture with pain relief only when, in reality, I can treat nearly all medical conditions. Finally, most patients do not realize that I have undergone extensive training and licensing requirements and am closer to a doctor than a massage therapist.
To combat these misrepresentations, I want to convey the true nature of my work: comfort, lightness, relief from pain and stress. I would like the logo to incorporate a realistic (possibly hand-drawn) and wispy image of a feather OR a dandelion as the main graphic element....
Things to AVOID: East meets West (cliche), New Age, sharpness/focus on the needles, pain, lotus, ying-yang (other other typical Asian imagery), cartoon logos
Aesthetic/design elements I love: vintage, dots, classic bold type-writer type, block letters, classic apothecary and anatomical imagery, classic medical diagrams/encyclopedia images.
Though I want to convey professionalism, I am okay with a little "wink" of humor or wittiness if it feels right. First and foremost though, I want simple, classic and elegant (see my aesthetic). Most in my field rely on generic Asian-inspired stuff (which I find cliche since I am actually Asian -half Korean- and my goal is to stand out by being more streamlined and clear.
My plan is to use this logo on (possibly embossed) business cards, gift certificates, stationary and a stamp. Once we settle on a logo, I am definitely interested in continuing to work together to complete my print media package.
