Tell us a bit about who you are and the people you reach
Haskap Nova Scotia is the name of the brand of the Haskap Growers Association of Nova Scotia. It represents a consortium of haskap berry growers in Nova Scotia.
The Haskap fruit is a blue coloured elongated berry about 1 cm in diameter. The berry has the unique quality of having a skin that will melt in your mouth, and seeds that are so small they are not noticeable. The skin of a Haskap is a dark blue, but with an intense crimson flesh. The juice of the berry has a naturally high brix factor (natural sugar content) and colours almost anything it is combined with to a dark burgundy. The taste of the haskap berry is uniquely tangy and has been compared to a combination of Blueberry and Raspberry with a hint of Blackberry.
The target audiences of the brand are:
1. Consumers – general public learning about the nutritional importance of haskap berries, wanting to buy haskap berries and haskap products.
2. Food service and culinary professionals – informational – creative uses, and where to buy.
3. Commercial buyers – bulk purchasers of fresh, frozen, dried haskap berries for resale or manufacturing of haskap added value products and beverages (alcoholic and non-alcoholic).
4. Growers – existing and potential growers interested in best practices to produce high quality haskap berries.
