mmhedges got their new logo design by running a design contest:
Get Earthy! Can you meld a topographical map image into a usable logo/brand?

Accounting & Financial
Investment Management. Targeting institutional/professional financial advisors.
We aim to create a logo that incorporates our name, but to be able to have each (logo and name) be separated when needed. We'd be interested to see versions with the name and image combined somehow, AND versions where they are separated. At times we will only need the name (no image) but would want to maintain the font/style you have designed. The logo/brand needs to be sophisticated since this is the investments industry, yet fun and interesting and telling our story. At the same time simple enough to use on a black/white letterhead, embroider on clothing, etc. Our name is Terrain Alternative Partners and we'd like to see versions of both that formal name 'Terrain Alternative Partners' and just the word 'Terrain' worked into a logo theme so we can go back and forth. Mandatory--We absolutely want to use an image of a topographical map as our logo--this should give you an easy inspiration to launch with. I am attaching some very quick work ups I attempted in just 10 minutes to give you a start. Forget the colors you see here, come up with something on your own, but be inspired by earthy colors such as clay, dirt, bronze, copper. Know we need something that works very well in black/white, as well as with color. We'd be curious to see if you can work the name Terrain into the topo map image, but it's not absolutely necessary. As for the Topo image, we want the observer to know immediately that it's a topo map image but not sooooo detailed with many tiny lines that it's too hard to embroider or if you fax it on a letterhead it becomes a blob--you get the idea. (note: the one image that I'm sending which which has no lettering may work really well--it's a good balance of enough lines but not so much that they are too detailed for practical use. I've used 99 before with great results and I'm eager to be very active and quickly responsive in helping you along. We'll be money good for the best design, we're not here to waste anyone's time and we're happy to pay for quality. Thanks for having a go at it.

Working with Visualist.ID was a great experience. Visualist introduced his/her self with background credentials, explained what he/she did what was doing, and created the highest caliber work we received from the very start. Also, extremely prompt and paid close attention to all our requests. Visualist is clearly a trained industry professional.
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
