The names of the indivual beers will be "La Gatineau" a molasses and ginger brown, " La Petite-Nation" a grapefruit saison, "L'Outaouaise" an irish red, "La Noire" a chocolate stout, "La Blanche" a white beer. They are all river names. You can get more info on those rivers on wikipedia. There are in the Outaouais region - the region from which the brewery name comes from.
I like the idea of having paddles in the logo since the region was discovered by canoe and since the rivers we the economic driver of the region's development. (see original sketch - you can notice I'm no graphic artist). Also, our region was inhabited by a strong first nations population in its beginning. It is said that when a group from a different tribe/band crossed someone else's territory, they would raise their paddle straight up vertically to show they come in peace. Don't have a clue how to integrate this in the design but I think the story is cool.
We'll be using 12 oz, heritage bottles. The label paper can either be white, silver (allowing metallic colors) or transparent. There will be no collar label and there must be room for a barcode (on the side or back of the bottle). The logo will appear on the bottle cap.
The winner will be determined by a panel made of my business partner, a beer connoisseur, my wife and I.
The winning entry will be picked based on the following criterion:
-Resonance with the themes (water, nature)
-Use of logo on bottle
-General bottle concept
The final label design contract will be awarded through a 1-on-1 project to the designer that will have shown the best mock-ups in this contest.
Please prepare 1 logo and illustrate how you see it integrated in a labeling scheme for the 5 beers. See this site for the legal requirements for labeling: http://www.inspection.gc.ca/food/la…hap=2#s1c2.
If you want, but it's not necessary, you can apply the logo on glassware or merch. This might give you extra points - depending on the final product.
