FanSprout.com
FanSprout.com is a fantasy sports site with a twist. We take a traditional fantasy sports game and fuse it with standards-based math curriculum to make math fun and relevant to middle-schoolers.
"FanSprout" refers to our goal of both creating new sports fans and to promoting the educational growth of the children who play.
We're targeting US families with children in middle school. More specifically, Dads in their late 30's or early 40's and kids (most likely boys) between 10 and 15.
Sports are important but will not be the sole focus of the site long term as we introduce politics and other interests. On the educational side, initially we will focus on math but eventually will spread to science, literature, history, etc.
Most of our competitors are large, adult-oriented sports sites like MLB.com, ESPN, Yahoo Sports, Sportsline.com, or Sandbox. The closest competitor in this space - http://familyfantasysports.com/ - is a family-friendly fantasy gaming site but they do not include any educational components.
Our brand is based on family and education, so those are important concepts to convey. Since "sprout" typically conveys growth, that would be an important concept to convey as well.
Other useful concepts: fun, safe, bright, cheerful, inspiring, nuturing, gaming, sports, youth, kids, seed.
For the most part, the concepts are just a suggestion. I'm open to anything that addresses the brief.
We do have an existing site (http://www.fansprout.com) that is still under development, so please note:
1) the name was very recently changed from WhizKidSports.com, so you might see references to that name in the copy, title bar, etc.
2) The long term goal is to change the existing site design as well though, so don't feel wedded to the existing design. Something that is too close to the existing design will probably be turned down.
3) We're looking for something around 60px high.
Ideally the logo could be used on a business card as well, but this should not be the primary design focus.
