How Mclennan started their logo design journey

This is for a project that lasts a week. Twenty-five theatre critics from around America will converge on Los Angeles to cover a theatre festival in June. We are creating a "pop-up" newsroom and website called "Engine 28" to cover the festival. It will have reviews, video, images, interviews, etc, and be experimental in the ways in which it covers the festival. It coincides with a national conference of 1000 theatre professionals from all over the country. Why is the website called Engine 28? We'll be located in an old fire house in downtown LA where Engine Company 28 was once housed. (now it's an office building with a restaurant called Engine Company 28 in the bottom). The space is a bit funky, the festival is fringey and the conference is all about new ideas in theatre.

I'm thinking something retro, luxe, whimsical, maybe. I'm thinking like an image of an old-fashioned fire truck with "28" on it or "engine 28". Something that conveys motion, action. Something theatrical. Maybe cartoonish? The site will be for anyone interested in theatre. But we're also using it as a showcase for new ways of covering the arts.
