Monitoring Electoral Democracy (MEDem) is a proposed European research infrastructure that links many existing comparative as well as national projects to study the functioning of electoral democracies in Europe, and brings comparative research on European electoral democracies to a new level. To achieve this, MEDem sets out to establish, operate and develop a pan-European distributed research infrastructure of data collection, in order to provide resources, facilities and support for high quality research regarding all aspects of the democratic electoral process in Europe. MEDem will grant European researchers effective access to its resources and common services that include a centrally organized data management and dissemination service, and provide scientific, technical and ethical expertise. The goal of MEDem is to get the recognition as being of central and strategic political and scientific importance for European social and political research. Therefore, the target audience of MEDem extends on the one hand to elites, parliaments and governments, and on the other hand to the media and citizens.

MEDem is a proposal for a research infrastructure. This means there is no current logo. The logo is going to be presented for the first time at an international conference for political science in mid-June. MEDem infrastructure will support innovation in research on electoral democracies in Europe and a particular emphasis will be placed on strengthening a European network in this field. Therefore, the designer should think about these particularities to create our logo. The blue colour was chosen in reference to the European Union flag.
