The Junior Indigenous Marine and Environmental Cadets program is a charity providing employment and training to Indigenous youth across the country in the marine and environmental industries. We pay for all wages, uniforms, education and all other costs relating to employment.
We started the program by targeting students in their second last year of high school, and provided them with specialized training for their field, as well as a fully paid internship. After two years in the program, we continue to advocate for our trainees, with the aim to secure every child who graduates with a full time position. With the national average of just 2% of Indigenous youth securing full time employment after a traineeship. At current 100% of our trainees have secured full time employment after school. This is an incredible powerful program that has the potential to impact lives across Australia.
We would like a new logo to signify our expansion. Taking on an additional 34 students at the start of 2019, up from 15 this year.
Our target audience is Indigenous youth, schools and government organisations.
We would like to keep our colors true to the students we serve, incorporating a design by Indigenous artist of the year Daren Dunn, and the Indigenous colors, red, white, black and yellow. We would also like to show our marine roots, with a compass incorporated in the background.
