We’d like our logo to convey multiple features of our model:
1. All components (A, C, E & M).
2. The fact that monitoring is present within each of the other components. (It would be nice if somehow the importance of monitoring could also be conveyed. Monitoring is the “thinking” & decision-making process it is what guides a solver through A, C & E.)
3. Problem-solving is not a linear process. Too often teachers and textbooks only illustrate examples that are free of errors, but real problem-solving is recursive. For example, a solver may go back to analyzing the task after doing some execution. Problem-solving never is A-C-E-done. It’s usually A-C-A-E-C-E-A-C-E-done, with monitoring throughout. (Monitoring is what guides a person to move “forward” or “backward”.)
===> We would like to utilize the visual metaphor of a "thought cloud". To describe the monitoring component to students, we often simplistically describe it as the “thinking” component of problem-solving. Thus, the M is part of the thought cloud, which encloses the other three components. (This is not meant to imply that there isn’t any thinking involved in A, C or E. Rather, those steps often involve paper and pencil actions and monitoring often solely a mental process.) To illustrate the fact that monitoring is a key part in deciding when to move to a different component (A, C, E), the M interlocks with each of the other three letters forming the link between them. It would be nice if feature #3 could be incorporated as well, but we are concerned about making the logo too busy. It would be readable down to a printed size of 1.5" (below that, such as for end marks, we would simply use the cloud outline with no letters or ornamentation). <===
The included examples are not meant to be requests (they are sketches by scientists and look as such!). They are just ideas that have come to mind, but we want your creativity and insight!!!
