We are a group of geologists and geology students based in St. Louis who participate in doing science in the Midwest. We're looking for a logo that suggests our region and our activity

I'd like to explore the following colors:
Greens: Growth, harmony and success.
Oranges: Creativity, adventure and happiness.
Light neutrals: Purity, balance and sophistication.

Other notes
We'd like to incorporate our unofficial mascot, the Piasa bird (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piasa). A redrawn version of this, holding a rock hammer would be ideal. Maybe incorporate a fleur de lis (representing St Louis) somehow. We'd like it to be simple enough to print on t-shirts, hats etc., but still recognizable.
