I love how many variations he provided. One of the best experiences I've had on 99 Designs.

How mmccoyd started their logo design journey
Who are you known as?
New Leaf Environmental
What’s your company slogan?
Tell us a bit about who you are and the people you reach
Environmental (ecological) consulting firm, primarily focusing on arboriculture/urban forestry consulting. (Involves assessing trees, to help people maintain trees and landscapes, relocate trees or plant new landscapes, especially in concert with redevelopment/New development). We work with high profile projects and cities to keep heritage landscaping (esp. trees) and plant intelligently to keep and improve urban landscapes. Most of my work is in Miami and sometimes does involve the water, so some aspect of the water would be nice. Despite being in Miami, I am not interested in palm trees being a prominent part of the design. Don't need to incorporate a specific tree type, but I do like and specialize in strangler figs and red mangroves, and with their distinctive looks, showing either may be a good approach.
What industry do you think your business is most related to?
A tan or khaki color to offset the green would be nice, and/or a blue to indicate nearby water (business is based in Miami)

Good visual interest, movement within the image, and balance of the overall composition
I like the dual form of the paint splash being the crown, it gives the viewer something to stare at and figure out, which creates a lasting memory of the logo comma but is not too obscure for the average person to figure out
It is a nice stylized version of the animal, and shows good movement within the image
Similar to the crown paint design, I like the Dual image in this logo, that makes you want to stare at it for a minute
I like that the leaf was not just a simple standard leaf, but Incorporated the key concept of the company. I also like that this is unique, not just a simple dual image
I like having secondary images within the main image, but this one is a little plain, and does not communicate the purpose of the business
I like the clean lines but this one is a little too simple, and I don't just want an outline
"Strangler fig" tree growing in Miami, where I work. This is one of my favorite trees to work with.
There are many designs that are very cliche that show a simple leaf turning over, I would like something a little more unique, eye-catching, and memorable. It is okay if the leaf is a little more conceptual, that will help to separate it from looking like clipart.
