The Urban Wood Rescue program is a specialty urban lumber milling operation under the Sacramento Tree Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating and maintaining the best urban forest possible (through education, tree planting and maintenance, volunteerism, and more). The Urban Wood Rescue program is a new program for the Foundation and we are looking to have a logo developed specifically for the program.
Background: In urban areas, when trees have to be removed for whatever reason, the logs usually end up thrown into the landfill where the wood just decomposes. Our Urban Wood Rescue program is “rescuing” those logs from the landfill and turning that wood into usable products (lumber, live edge furniture, art pieces, etc.), which we will then sell - essentially repurposing the trees and giving them a second life. The City of Sacramento is known as the City of Trees, which is one piece that makes this program so cool – there are stunning, large trees in the area and the through this program, the Foundation is now able to tell the full story of those trees, from seed and seedling to milling the lumber.
The urban wood movement throughout the United States is growing – it’s a movement that attracts all sorts of people: artisans, woodworkers, interior designers, sawyers, etc. Please watch this trailer for a documentary on the Urban Wood movement: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_UeVStNvy3s It shows the feeling and purpose behind what we are doing with our program.
We are drawn to simple designs, we generally like the use of end grain or silhouetted trees (though they don’t need to be included), we want something sophisticated and clean. This logo will be used online (web and social media), embroidered on clothing, for standard business printing needs (e.g., letterhead), and will be laser engraved and even branded into wood. The important piece is that it needs to visually relate to our parent brand, the Sacramento Tree Foundation (sactree.com), even if it’s just using the color scheme.
• Design a logo for the Urban Wood Rescue program that is compelling, unique and resonates with our mission and audience.
• Create a unique logo and brand that is simple, modern, represents the work of the Urban Wood Rescue program
