Ockham's Beard is the public brand identity for me. I'm a philosopher, writer and editor, with Ockham's Beard representing my work doing philosophy in public. It's a play on "ockham's razor" (sometimes spelt "occam's razor"). It's similar to "Bill Nye the Science Guy", except for philosophy. My work includes writing features and op eds in the media, public speaking and hosting philosophy seminars, producing philosophy radio for the ABC as well as my own podcast, and soon a YouTube channel and there's a book on the way. The target audience is members of the general public who are interested in ideas and philosophy. The Ockham's Beard logo will appear on my website & social media, business cards, podcast, YouTube channel etc.
I'd like the logo to be clever but playful, perhaps a bit cheeky. Philosophy is often perceived to be serious, boring and/or hard. I want to signal that philosophy can excite our innate curiosity, it can be inherently enjoyable and deeply meaningful. Curiosity and play might be themes that you can start with. Also, I have a beard, which links to the name, but that doesn't have to be reflected in the logo. I have attached a barebones placeholder I've been using for a while that you can use for inspiration, but I'm open to the logo moving away from this idea. I generally prefer simple, high contrast and striking or memorable logos. I also like puns, plays on words (hence the name) and figurative language and imagery.
Every design category has flexible pricing for all budgets. Logo design starts at $349.
