Our new company seeks to connect doctors and their patients to the future of personalized medicine by using DNA to create the most advanced genetic reports available.
The idea of our company and our primary product is to use cutting edge science and medical research to illuminate the code that underlies our health. We go “in depth” into the genome, exploring DNA to reveal the answers to health mysteries, and providing an incredibly valuable and somewhat futuristic tool to help people live better, healthier lives.
We’re on the fence about using the classic DNA double-helix image in our design. It seems like every company that has anything to do with DNA uses the double helix, which on one hand is good because it’s informative - but part of our objective with the logo is to express the idea that we’re not like every other DNA reporting service out there. We’re different. This is something new, special and important. That said, we’re open to designs that *suggest* the double helix, but aren’t too on-the-nose.
What we do involves dealing with complex science and interpretation of vast amounts of data and statistical analysis. We provide a service to our clients by taking that complex and confusing stuff and turning it into something that’s easier to understand and empowers them to take action.
It would be nice if the logo could hint at that underlying complexity, while expressing a simpler feel.
We’d like the logo to reflect these ideas, and also draw from the “in depth” name to incorporate the concept of depth as well. In general, we're leaning toward a more abstract design. Here are some ideas you might like to explore:
- the idea of unlocking
- revealing something valuable that had been hidden or obscured
This logo is the first step in defining the look and feel of our new brand. Here are some terms that describe the vibe we’re after:
- cutting edge medical science
- aspirational but attainable
- academic but accessible
- straddles the line between luxury item and necessity
- the future has arrived
- high quality
We’d love something clever with interesting geometry.
We like logos that have multiple colors like the ones in many of the sample images (links below). We’ll leave the exact color choices up to you.
The logo needs to be adaptable, should look great splashed across a screen, but also on the front cover of our signature report, atop a website and on a business card.
It can have the name “In Depth DNA” incorporated into the design (with a clean, distinctive font), but it should be designed so that if the text were removed there would still be a logo mark without the name.
The next step of this process for us is to take the winning logo and use it as a spring board to design the cover of our report - our primary product. We're also planning on using it to inspire the creation of some abstract backgrounds we can use in presentations and marketing material. There may be opportunities for the winner of the logo design to help us with these and other projects.

and this image in particular really resonates with us:
It seems to suggest data, depth, health, precision, approachability, etc. Also like that it’s colorful - which seems to create some balance with its simplicity and cheerfulness.
But as you’ll see in the boards of sample images, we’ve found a variety of different concepts we like so don’t feel like you have to stick to any one in particular. We’d like a range of designs to choose from so please feel free to get creative with it and explore any and all of these ideas.
Thanks, can't wait to see your ideas!
