info.inspectit got their new logo design by running a design contest:
New creative logo for the leading open-source APM tool inspectIT
Check out info.inspectit's Logo design contest…
inspectIT is the leading open-source application performance management tool. Our tool is used for finding performance problems in applications (usually Java/Web applications). Our product helps software developers in identifying slow parts of their applications, so that they can improve their software and provide better/faster experience to the users. Our target audience is: performance engineers, programmers, developers/operators, quality assurance testers, but also management of IT organisations.
The inspectIT tool needs a new logo. To learn more about inspectIT here are first some basic information (taken from our website http://inspectit.rocks): What is inspectIT: inspectIT is your open source Application Performance Management solution for monitoring and analyzing Java(EE) applications. The Java agent turns on the light in your application's black box and you can see why the application is slow or not available. A central data repository has all the performance metrics you really need available anytime so that you can stop running around to obtain your information. Import and export functionality of monitoring data allows you to smash the silos in your organization and to improve the information flow between operators and developers. Keywords: java, application, performance, APM, open source, free, analysis, diagnosis, monitoring, testing, devops What kind of logo do we want? We have not settled for a particular idea and we are open for new creative proposals. Our thoughts are the following: 1) We started this contest in order to get fresh ideas. We ask you to create a logo that you believe will win. Use our provided information to kick start your creativity. 2) It's somehow a trend that (open-source) IT projects have an animal as a logo. For example: - docker.com has a whale (is very strong and can handle a lot of containers) - github.com has an octopus (has a few more "hands" than others and can handle a lot of repositories) - Go programming language (https://golang.org/) has a gopher (fast, clever) - there are many other examples as well (twitter (smile)) We brainstormed and tried to find what properties our animal should have: - investigative skill (good nose and ears as well) - can find bugs (or other pest) easily and loves to eat them - is agile and moves very quick - is small/lightweight Everything else we leave to you designers. Some additional small details: - logo must be usable also without the inspectIT word, usually we need this for GitHub or Twitter profile picture or similar - we don't like the font style in our old logo Colors: We primary selected Reds in the "Colors to explore?" question because our old logo was based on the red color. But we invite designers to give any kind of suggestions. But please note that the colors should be compatible with the current color scheme on our website (http://www.inspectit.rocks). We are very happy with the contest in general and specifically with the work of the winner, Keralin Design. He provided a great concept, many variations and was very responsive and helpful in working out the details. Two thumbs up!
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
We think contests are a super fun way to get design.
