Scarlet Software got their new logo design by running a design contest:
Create a logo for a software company inspired by a bird!
Check out Scarlet Software's Logo design contest…
We are a handful of software engineers and this is our company. We've been working within technology for a few years now, but we are very entrepreneurial and active, so we decided to go ahead and form this company. We will be building cool web-based software, and we are starting from a platform for project management! You'll be able to add your projects and lots of teammates to collaborate with. You will be able to track your progress and work towards specific goals. We call ourselves and our product Scarlet. We don't like complicated problems, we prefer to build things from scratch rather than worry about fixing them. Our name is inspired by the Scarlet Tanager. It's a bright red bird that appears to be proud and brave, so we would like to see these qualities in the logo. Ideally it would be nice to see the Scarlet Tanager bird itself to an extent but it doesn't have to be a literal interpretation of how the bird looks in reality. Definitely don't just design a random bird or an abstract figure that looks like it. You need to bring at least the above two qualities into the illustration (proud or brave) and make sure it has character - i.e. unique expression/pose (if you are doing an illustration). It should inspire you to "carry-on", "be confident, be proud", "create your own company", "build that website you've always wanted" but most of all to have fun! It should be more playful and less serious. Note I've said "illustration" this is what we think we prefer (but not exclusively) If you are doing an illustration - it shouldn't be flat - we may even want to see some shading. Beyond this, you can think outside the box - if you want to give the bird a prop or anything else that's fine as long as you can justify it - impress us! Props, facial expressions and interactions will the scope for round 2 so if you can tackle this in round 1 you will have an advantage. Whatever you design, make sure it's unique in shape and rememberable (again not just a regular bird figure - it won't be accepted). In general please feel free to not focus so much on the bird, or on its colour but tell us why you choose to design the way you have. About the colour, Scarlet is also a name some shades of red (you can find a few RGB variations of that colour on Wikipedia) . Please tell us which HEX colour codes you've primarily used. You can find more info here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scarlet_(color). Of course, a shade of red needs to be used in the logo but it's up to you how and to what extent. You can suggest the use of other colours as long as they work well and complement your choice of red. For phase 2, you will be asked to explore colours more and especially having your logo agains various backgrounds. So if you can explore this in phase 1 you will have an advantage. Please feel free to send us a message explaining your choices and asking for feedback - this is highly recommended. Also, please let us know of questions. Submitting more than one variation of your design is highly recommended. Please only use Open Source Fonts in your logos.
