KEEN (the Kelp Ecosystem Ecology Network) is for an organization that studies kelp forests around the planet. There are many kinds of kelp forests, from the Giant Kelp forests of California (Macrocystis) to Bull Kelps in Washington (Nereocystis) to Kombu in Japan (Laminaria japonica and Laminaria longissima) to sugar kelp (Saccharina latissima) hand-kelp (Laminaria hyperborea), or palm-list kelps such as Lessonia nigricans in Chile or Ecklonia radiata in Australia. There are also wonderful kelps such as elk kelps like Pelagophycus or the majestic Ecklonia maxima. Look at these kelps, and photos dives in these forests. We want a logo that conveys that we are studying kelp around the globe and that there is a tremendous diversity of kelps. Our current 'logo' at http://www.kelpecosystems.org/ is a globe and selects randomly two pictures of different kelps from different places around the planet. It's horrible. But it gets at the basic ideas we are looking for.
