Mercari Health is an exciting start-up healthcare technology company. Its mission is to revolutionize the way in which patients in the United States purchase healthcare services, by making the process easier, more affordable and more customer-centric.
Mercari will, for the first time ever, give patients the power to shop for healthcare services in the same way that they shop for affordable flights, hotels and cars on sites such as priceline.com and expedia.com. Like those companies, Mercari will interact with its customers in large part through mobile apps and a B2C website. (There will be follow-on design projects for the apps and website after the logo has been finalized.)
Mercari’s logo should be bold and simple and serious and iconic. It should translate well in small size (e.g., on a mobile phone screen), while also conveying the newness of what Mercari will do and, because the company will deal with its customers’ health, the seriousness with which it will do it.
Mercari’s logo also should pay homage to history and meaning of the word itself. “Mercari” means “to trade” and has the same root as “Mercury”, the Roman god of commerce and trading. One of Mercury’s symbols is the caduceus, which is widely used to connote medicine and healthcare. Mercury also is commonly associated with Hermes, the fleet-footed messenger of the gods in Greek mythology.
