Tom McCormack got their new logo design by running a design contest:
Create a new logo for HeatSpring, an online learning start-up!

We provide online expert training to industry professionals. (We are like Coursera but for industry professionals looking to gain new tangible, applicable skills.)
Logo types to explore
We were traditionally an online education company focusing on high-performance building (which influenced our current logo), the first one in the attached PDF document). We are now moving into more industries, so we are looking for a more general logo. We are looking to imitate Coursera, so their logo is a good place to start. We like simple logos like the ones used by Dropbox, Walmart, and Twitter. We are looking for something horizontal that includes a graphic of some kind that is a simple shape, possibly similar to a flame, a water droplet, a leaf, or a combination of the three (as you see in our concept sketches). We are open to other creative graphic elements as well. A simple geometric shape or group of shapes might work well. We are open to uppercase, lowercase, or a combination of the two. It would be great to see a "heatspring" and "HeatSpring" version of your logo because we haven't decided which direction to go yet.

And then… they selected a winner!
Fabulous experience! First draft of design itself was exactly what we were looking for. The designer followed the brief guidelines perfectly and was very prompt in making any changes. Will definitely work again with Mard in the future.
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
We think contests are a super fun way to get design.
