Community & Non-Profit
LeftRoots is a new organization that brings together social movement activists from across the United States to develop new left vision and strategy and to take action together. LeftRoots' target audience is overwhelmingly young (18 - 35 years old), people of color in cities and women. Through collective study, analysis and action, we aim to spark the emergence of unstoppable liberation movements that can challenge the hegemony of capitalism, white supremacy, patriarchy and imperialism. Lastly, our name comes from the combination of two different terms. "Left" because we are on the left side of the political spectrum; and "Roots" because our work flows from the grassroots. We want to see people and communities that have too often been excluded from public discourse (working class communities, communities of color, women, young people, etc.) to play a leading role in determining determining society's priorities.
Logo types to explore
We have been using the metaphor of social movement activists as bees because like social movement activists, bees play a role in cross-pollinating between flowers and movements. Also, bees play a critical role in helping plants and vegetation flourish just like social movement activists do. Their power comes from collective action, and when organized (into a swarm) bees can defend themselves against larger threats. Although we're not completely tied to it, it would be great to see examples of logos that feature bees (one or many) as activist heroes. Finally, because we are building analysis and alignment around critiques of capitalism, racism and sexism, we like some of the iconography that came out of the socialist propaganda (like some of the logo samples I included). I know this is a lot. Please feel free to hit me with any questions, but thank you for offering your creative vision.
