Cyrus7580 got their new logo design by running a design contest:
Crasher needs a new logo
Check out Cyrus7580's Logo design contest…
Crasher is an extension for Chrome that allows users to leave comments on any site they wish via a convenient button + overlay in their browser.
Logo types to explore
Origin of "crasher" name - The name "crasher" comes from the term "uninvited, but not necessarily detrimental, guest" as in "to crash a party". The crasher app, allows users to make comments about a site in a 3rd-party, independent overlay as shown above. Colors - As you can see, I attempted my own logo and am somewhat happy with it. I tried a bunch of different colors, but really like the blue/green as I've got it. Maybe I subliminally matched it to StumbleUpon, but it doesn't matter -- Stumbleupon's logo is red now! General design - The signature element of the crasher Chrome extension is the button which tells the number of comments on a page over a period of time. It's like a fraction where the # of comments is the numerator and the time period is the denominator. To separate these two numbers in the button, I made the top half one color and the bottom half another color. This is where the half-and-half top & bottom design in the logo came from. While I'm not completely married to the logo having a top/bottom split, I do like the consistency of imagery from the logo to the button. I would suggest continuing along that line of thinking. Square requirement - I need a short & wide logo, but also a square logo for various purposes (favicon, for one). You can see that I made such a square logo by going with "Cr" in the same general design. Stylization - This is where you can have the most freedom. In my design, I went with the "talk bubble" since Crasher is all about communication. I like it, but i'm not married to it. I also made pixelated edges in the main logo since the extension's button is naturally pixelated by its 19x19 requirement. I'm not married to extending it to the full logo, either. Things to avoid - The term "crasher" is a risky choice for my application because of negative connotations like "car crash" or "this app will crash your computer". I would steer very clear of reinforcing any association with those meanings. Visually reinforcing the association of crasher with "to crash a party" MAY be positive, but not necessarily. If people look at the logo and think Crasher is a party planning service, that's bad. As you can see, I went with the talk bubble image, not a champagne glass image. Just use your own judgement. Good luck! Can't wait to see the results.
