The Consortium for Detecting Cognitive Impairment, Including Dementia (DetectCID for short), will be a collaborative network of research programs. Our goal is to create tools and protocols that will help clinicians in primary care and other everyday clinical settings detect cognitive impairment (for example, early stage Alzheimer's dementia) during patient evaluations. An example of a tool is a iPad-based memory test. Most of our tools are computerized but some use paper and pencil. We also hope to address barriers to detecting cognitive impairment associated with health disparities by designing tools that work well with diverse types of patients.
We require a logo for the consortium that speaks to the simplicity, efficiency, accuracy, and diagnostic nature of our work. The primary audience will be healthcare providers (mostly primary care physicians) and healthcare administrators. The logo should also appeal to researchers and to older patients. We hope for it to show the modernity of a straightforward, mature, and friendly medical workflow that can be easily integrated into busy primary care practices. Our ultimate mission is to have our tools and protocols widely adopted in primary care to increase detection rates. Though our consortium focuses on cognitive impairment, we would like to avoid brain-related imagery as it may make a patient feel nervous or judged. We would also like to avoid any "basic science" imagery such as a microscope or neurons. Instead, we are inspired by more abstract images like spotlights or magnifying glasses. The color scheme should be calm, medical, and clean, and appropriate for printing materials.
