CodeKiwi needed a new logo design and created a contest on 99designs.
A winner was selected from 254 designs submitted by 64 freelance designers.
CodeKiwi
CodeKiwi are bespoke software development company based in Melbourne, Australia.
Until now much of our work has come via word of mouth however it is time that we begin developing a formal presence, starting with a logo but leading to a website and other promotional tools.
CodeKiwi’s work is characterised by creative thinking and clever solutions, delivered in a flexible but professional manner. As such we want a logo that is clean and professional, but ideally with something that makes it a bit different or clever (an example is use of negative space but we’re open to ideas).
The files we will require are:
Print file format - .ai (CMYK)
Web file format - .jpg and layered .psd (RGB)
We mostly deal business-to-business with professional clients. Therefore, the logo should be a strong and professional design (not ‘cute’ like some B2C logos).
The logo will be used for comms with both existing and new clients:
- CodeKiwi Website and splash page
- Client websites & branded software
- Signatures & Business Cards
- Proposals, Client comms, Contracts, Invoices etc.
(some of these may constitute additional contracts down the road once we settle on a logo)
CodeKiwi is made up of code + kiwi (i.e. a software company run by two Kiwis/New Zealanders). We currently represent this in white-on-black CamelCase but we are open to alternative ideas!
1. A logo for use in the previously-mentioned channels
2. An icon or symbol that can be used as a favicon/mini icon on its own (may be a cut-down version of logo if appropriate, depending on logo style)
STYLE
- Simple, modern logo with a clean, bold design
- Our brand is professional but clever – the logo should reflect this
- Use of negative space in some way would be a plus
- Should be easily scalable and not too spindly/detailed
We are flexible about the format of the logo in terms of shape, use of the words/letters within the logo, etc.
Sometimes it’s easier to say what you DON'T want. So, please no:
- Kiwis (as in, the bird). Yes, we are Kiwis but we don’t want to over-emphasise this as we are operating in the Australian market.
- ‘Code’ imagery (e.g. binary, matrix-style numbers – not for us, thanks)
- Stock images/clip art (just, no thanks)
- Nothing ‘cutesy’, please - we want a bold, strong brand
COLOURS
Simplicity is key. We are currently using {CodeKiwi} in bold white font against a black background however feel free to experiment as we would be open to the use of colour if still a clean, bold logo.
EXAMPLES
Our ideal logo is something simple but clever. Some examples of logos that we feel have achieved this:
