The logo will BE the masthead of the website, so you are in fact designing a horizontal masthead. Target readers are "conscious omnivores" - people who are interested in organic food and eating healthier without making sacrifices. They've probably read Omnivore's Dilemma or Food Matters and also Food and Wine, and skew towards better educated, higher income. Secondary- moms looking for simple recipes to create a natural, healthier menu for their familes. Probably moms who left a successful career to be a full time mom. I want the image to be lucious and slightly indulgent, not one of sacrifice. This logo will be used primarily for the horizontal masthead of my website, but should also be usable for other formats as needed. I don't anticipate using in non-web formats so full color (photo?) is preferred.
