I am a historian of religion located in Norway and about to live out my dream of launching a small publishing firm - specializing in literature dealing with historical and religious themes. My first publishing task is my own work on Jerusalem - the first and most comprehensive and richly illstraded book on the history of Jerusalem ever published in Norway (in norwegian). I have myself lived several years in the Middle East and I am very fond of the design and architecture found in almost every historical epoch found in this region, especially byzantine and medieval periods. I am very interested in design in general - and my home is like my interests - quite ecclectic and full of esoteric and historical remedies scattered around. I work as a lecturer and a refugee councellor, I love to be outdoors (either mountaineering or kayaking in the sea) and I love to travel the world.

The desired audience is at the moment a segment of the norwegian book-readers of non-fictional litterature, specializing in history/religous ideas. This could also include students of say Middle Eastern Studies. The name of the label is however spelled in English (Raven and Wolf) - both because this is no problem for the norwegian audience, but also since I may go "international" to an english-speaking audience, if I will experience success at home. The segment is small, however, and exclusive. The first edition of the upcoming book will be 3000 books only.
I am looking for a design for my label Raven & Wolf (R&W) which is the name of my publishing firm (and also my two children :-) The logo will adorn upcoming and published books, as well as all other commercial communication on the web and on stationary. I am picturing a design with fonts revealing a somewhat esoteric or antique finishing. The font can be blended into an illustrated design which encompasses a raven (or a raven´s wing) and a wolf (or a full moon?) without this becoming too messy or "cheap". I like it simple, and "dark" - intriguing.
Feel otherwise free to be CREATIVE - I will appreciate ALL attempts being made in this contest! If anyone wants to incorporate an oriental element - making a link to the Middle East/history etc. - feel free!
