Medical & Pharmaceutical
Brighton Hospital Anaesthetics Department... We would like this logo to raise the Brighton Anaesthesia brand profile among other Anaesthetic and Health Care Specialties within the UK and beyond at health industry conferences and within specialty scientific publications.
Please do take a look at the sketches we have uploaded. They are ideas, but please choose to bastardise them, make them look more corporate or more playful... or start from afresh... whatever you think works best. But it should somehow convey 'Brighton' and the medical specialty of 'Anaesthesia' in one, simple message that our department can brand both our scientific paper submissions, our sceintific meeting posters, our coffee mugs and our twitter handle. Scientific, corporate, bold, simple, friendly and fresh. Not too obvious, but not so abstract that we'd have to explain at length what it is, and who it represents... I hope that brief is not too fussy (its my first time!) Lastly, just to clarify (because many who have never needed an anaesthetist, or don't know one, would not have reason to know): anaesthetists do not just drift people off to sleep for operations: to start and mainatain general (asleep) anaesthesia is to start and manage ongoing life-support. Under anaesthesia patients need us to breath for them, mainatin their blood pressure, monitor their brain activity, manage fluid balance, kidney and liver function, interpret and act on regular blood chemistry data, all the while instigating pain relief and anti - sickness medication and regulating muscle paralysing agents such that the patient wakes safely and comfortably at the end of the surgery. As a result of such skills, we make up the bulk of the doctors on Intensive Care, we look after the sickest patients in A&E (the ones that are unconscious, not breathing, bleeding from major trauma, or in cardiac arrest. We manage pain, epidurals and medical obstetric emergencies on the labour ward. Our skills in local anaesthesia also make us experts at numbing limbs or body parts with 'regional anaesthesia', so patients too sick for a general can have their surgery awake. We are anatomy, physiology and pharmacology life-support experts. Drifting people off to sleep is the tip of our professional ice-berg. Sorry to go on... I have colleagues who may wish me to convey this, and it may help influence the 'sentiment' of any logo you design...? It may not... but just in case, now you know. Thank you for your time everyone. x
