WORLD RAFIKI SAFARIS (www.worldrafiki.com)
In the Swahili language, "RAFIKI" means friend or friends. We are a start-up company that will be offering custom-designed safari tours (bespoke safaris) in the beautiful nation of Tanzania, the home of the Serengeti, the Ngorongoro Crater, and Mount Kilimanjaro, to name just a few of the country's spectacular locations. Unlike other safari companies, all of our guests will have the vehicle to themselves (i.e., private guided safari), will set their own itinerary, and will keep the same informative guide for their entire trip. Our guides really are the best trained in the industry and can provide more of an educational/naturalist experience than the guides of many other companies. We are also very much eco-aware, unlike some of the other companies who don't seem to care about the animals' boundaries or the natural environment. We believe in low-impact tourism and high-quality game viewing. That is the reason behind our comapny name - we are true friends of the world... We will also include unique and authentic cultural experiences such as village tours and visits to the bush men tribe who rarely receive tourists. We will not take our guests to the tourist trap villages. Finally, we will be able to offer scuba diving experiences on the offshore islands of Zanzibar and Memba.
The existing market of discerning world travellers. These are middle and upper middle class Americans and Europeans with money to spend on safaris and exotic vacations, which can be expensive. Some of them will already have been on safari. They tend to be doctors, lawyers, business owners, entrepreneurs, and other highly educated and successful individuals. Usually (but not always), they are in the 40 to 60 age range. We also wish to attract the first-time safari goer, so it is important to us that our logo captures the Africa of peoples' imaginations.
Most safari companies include a safari animal in their logo, but the problem with that approach is that all the common animals -- lions, zebras, giraffes, elephants, antelopes, etc. -- have already been used. In addition, we believe most of those logos are quite unoriginal and boring. (Some examples of those logos are attached.) Also attached are our first attempts at a logo which we have rejected. The problem with these are that the beetle is a negative, because it may imply to some that Africa is full of cockroaches and other horrible insects! The other issue was that the palm tree and the map of Africa was not particularly interesting or unique. It looked a bit gimmicky/cartoonish to us. We want something that is simple, classy, and speaks of African nature. For example, one idea we had was the silhouette of an an Umbrella Acacia tree, silhouetted by the setting sun on the Serengeti Plain. But we don't want to restrict ourselves to just one idea, and that might also be considered boring and unoriginal! Finally, we don't want a tribes person depicted in our logo, because that has been done before and it is not what we're really about. We're about the nature experience.
