giannad got their new logo design by running a design contest:
AAHM Academic Conference Logo
Check out giannad's Logo design contest…
We are looking to create a logo to be used on promotional material for an academic conference. This will be used on material to advertise for the conference and printed on posters, tote bags, etc. to be used during the event. The American Association for the History of Medicine (AAHM), founded in 1925, is a professional association of historians, physicians, nurses, archivists, curators, librarians, and others. The AAHM promotes and encourages research, study, writing, and interest in the history of medicine including the history of public health, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing and allied arts, sciences, and professions. Every year, the AAHM conference is hosted at a different university across the U.S. and in 2020, it will be held at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. We are looking for a fairly simple design that emphasizes the location of the conference. The logo should have "AAHM 2020" somewhere in the design as well as "Ann Arbor." We are looking for a design that is professional, but it can be abstract. Many members of our Local Arrangements Committee preferred designs that feature geometric patterns. In conversations about the logo, we all liked the idea of incorporating either an outline of the state or the Great Lakes or emphasizing nature-based elements of Ann Arbor and Michigan. Even though this is an academic conference for the history of medicine, we would prefer not to have too much medical imagery included, mostly because it can potentially be problematic and brings up political issues and academic debates over what does/does not constitute the field, etc.
Other color requirements
The colors of the University of Michigan are deep blue and bright yellow, but we do not need to feature these in the design; perhaps some of the colors could nod toward this, but other colors are fine to include as well.
It all began with a design brief.
