klauf got their new logo & brand guide by running a design contest:
Support African people by creating a modern FairTradeCompany-Logo.

People. Jobs. Trees.
We are a new German Fair-Trade-StartUp, which will sell African products to the European market. YIMUKA is taken from Luganda (local language in Uganda) and means to rise, to lift up. Our first product is honey from Uganda. Further products in the pipeline are shea-butter, different nuts and more. By accessing the European market on one side we empower single African food producers to reach a sufficient living standard. On the other side we actively protect the local nature. Taking honey as an example the beekeepers need the flowers of the trees to produce honey and therefore actively protect and plant them. Our target group includes the post-materiell, new-ecologic and expeditive milieu (2021: 30% of German population; source: SINUS). They can be described as being open-minded, pragmatic and solution-minded, cosmopolitan, thoughtful, awareness for big things in life, environmental focus, curious, open for change.
We want to use the same logo both for the main brand and for the single products. This means that the slogan will change, while the logo remains. E.g.: YIMUKA People.Jobs.Trees., YIMUKA Ugandan Wild Honey, etc.. In our view the „Y” of YIMUKA can stick out from the logo. “Y” both stands for “Why?” and the purpose of our company and also for “You” and our customer/ target group. See attached examples. We think Green is a good color standing for hope and our environmental focus. But we are also open for completely new color combinations. We will in any case deal with Africa. We have therefore also looked at African letters and artwork. See attached example. Though it may contradict with a modern and simple logo and font type, we would be very open, if certain elements or colors would be used in the logo. As we want to run different products with one brand, we do not necessarily need an icon or special graphic with our company name. In case we use an icon it should be simple and slim and be positioned above or beside our company name. See also attached examples.
